THE ART OF BEING PLEASANT

Keeping The Power of Love

PattyI am not much of a shopper but from time to time I will summons the nerve to go to a super mall such as the Town Center Mall, the closest to my home. A few days ago I felt brave. I boldly drove to the Mall and soon discovered as I tried desperately to stay out of everybody’s way that it would indeed prove once again to be a challenge. It felt good as I milled around from store to store day dreaming about how the different fashions would look on me and how I could manipulate my budget to buy a pair of shoes that absolutely had my name invisibly printed on them. Then it occurred to me that no one that I made eye contact with appeared to be happy. Nor, were they particular about returning my smile or my greetings. Of course that cause me some concern as I had this big grin on my face as the activity I was experiencing made me pleasantly happy.

I decided to do a little self-examination and proceeded to find reasons and justifications for the public’s response to me. Number one, just because I was enjoying my experience at the Mall did not mandate that anyone had to be happy. Secondly, everybody have their own set of problems and disappointments that they must deal with and today may be a bad day. I had a little problem with that justification because my teaching dictated that even if you have a bad day be pleasant, say “Good morning.” I dropped the effort early on as I discovered I was speaking in vein. As I continued my venture, I began to think of ways that the world would improve overnight. If we as a people could practice daily simple things such as, praise someone for doing a good job-waitress, bus driver, store clerk, anyone. Be patient with someone who doesn’t understand as quickly. Write or phone someone having a difficult time and say something special to cheer them up. Do our jobs a little better. Help someone -a cripple across a street, a young man or lady searching for direction, lead them. But foremost, look pleasant-several of the women I noted were developing frown lines that will be around in the future to haunt them.

My solutions to solve the world problems on being pleasant lasted all of ten minutes and I was back to my day at the Mall with a big grin on my face for I had to hurry back to the store and buy the shoes with my name.

POETRY THE SEEDS OF TRUTH

Charles John Seltenright, Poet Extraordinary

Recently, I discovered Charles John Seltenright, Poet Extraordinary. His written words absolutely took me to a different consciousness and I am so thrilled he gave me permission to post one of his poems here in Patty's Page. I believe it was Bailey who stated, "Poets are all who love---who feel great truths--And tell them." If this be the case, Charles John Seltenright, truly wear the shoes of Poet.

SILENT HUMILIATION

No happiness or jubilation Suffering in silent humiliation A lonely, sad parade Paying a debt that was made A harsh and brutal lesson A loss of more than mere possesions A child's sadness and pain Without a choice they must remain An unforgivable mistake From a choice they did not make Made in Love, broken in sadness The price.... their happiness Broken home, broken child A childhood lost and defiled Life becomes a living nightmare In which we cant repair A broken life, broken dreams Nothing is as it seems From a nightmare they awaken There childhood taken No decision,no choice They have no voice But in life they remain Suffering in the pain A childhood lost, its too late The price of our mistakes No happiness or jubilation Suffering silent humiliation

JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW

Good Information

PIN NUMBER REVERSAL. If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse. For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you. This information was recently released by the attorney general's office and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists. Please pass this along to everyone and also double check for validity.

O MY..... Rapist Preys on Men in Houston Area Date: Monday, December 18, 2006 By: O. E. Stomebaler, Associated Press Writer, APonline HOUSTON (AP) -

A rapist who preys on young men has struck five times in the Houston area since mid-September, and police said Monday there may be even more victims, but they are too ashamed to come forward. The rapist typically stalks, robs and sexually assaults his victims at gunpoint, apparently choosing them at random and attacking them near or inside their homes, police said. The most recent attack was Nov. 30.

THE HORN OF AFRICA

Another Truth of the Bush Administrations War

In Somalia, a reckless U.S. proxy war Undeterred by the horrors and setbacks in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon, the Bush administration has opened another battlefront in the Muslim world. With full U.S. backing and military training, at least 15,000 Ethiopian troops have entered Somalia in an illegal war of aggression against the Union of Islamic Courts, which controls almost the entire south of the country. As with Iraq in 2003, the United States has cast this as a war to curtail terrorism, but its real goal is to obtain a direct foothold in a highly strategic region by establishing a client regime there. The Horn of Africa is newly oil-rich, and lies just miles from Saudi Arabia, overlooking the daily passage of large numbers of oil tankers and warships through the Red Sea.
